Austin’s food scene is as fun and vibrant as its nightlife, making it the perfect city for a bachelorette weekend packed with memorable meals. Whether you’re brunching with mimosas under the Texas sun, grabbing tacos between poolside cocktails, or sitting down for a lively dinner before a night out on Rainey Street, there’s no shortage of delicious options.

Make reservations when possible. Many spots get busy, especially on weekends.

Breakfast / Brunch:

Josephine House

Vibe & setting: A charming, cottage-turned-restaurant in Clarksville, with indoor cozy seating, a small marble bar, shady patio nooks, and a grassy lawn out front.

Why it works for a bachelorette group: It feels elegant and relaxed — great for those who want a “pretty brunch” without being too loud or chaotic. There’s also a private event / buyout possibility (indoor + outdoor) which could be handy for larger groups.

Menu highlights: Their lemon ricotta pancakes are a standout, and they also offer brunch classics like steak & eggs, huevos rancheros, avocado toast, pastries, and locally sourced dishes.

Watch-outs / tips: The indoor seating is fairly small (some group members have noted limited inside capacity) — on busy days the patio is essential. Reservations are recommended

Two Hands

Vibe & setting: Australian-inspired, light, airy, modern but casual. They emphasize fresh, health-minded meals, community, and locally sourced ingredients.

Why it works for a bachelorette group: It’s relaxed but elevated — a nice bridge between casual and classy. The menu has variety (from healthy bowls to indulgent brunch items), and the space supports a social, comfortable brunch.

Menu highlights: They do brunch all day, with items like smoked salmon toast, seasonal scrambles, waffles, and brunch staples. Also good drink/cocktail selection.

Watch-outs / tips: For larger groups (8+), reach out ahead (they have a policy for such groups) . This spot is on South Congress so you can easily shop around while before or after you get a table!

Paperboy

Vibe & setting: Started as a food truck, now with brick-and-mortar spots (East 11th and South Lamar). Warm, comfortable, approachable with both indoor and outdoor seating (including rooftop in some cases).

Why it works for a bachelorette group: It’s reliably good, crowd-pleasing, and energetic without being over the top. Great for mixing brunch + social time. The rooftop / outdoor areas are fun for photos, catching sun, etc.

Menu highlights: Their “Texas Hash,” chicken & biscuit, Paperboy Pancake, and housemade pastries are fan faves. They also have solid coffee and cocktails.

Watch-outs / tips: It gets busy — waits are common, especially on weekends. Consider going early or making reservations (or using the to-go window).

Expansion note: Their South Lamar location is newer, with more indoor + patio capacity, which might be more comfortable for groups.

Veracruz Tacos

Vibe & setting: More casual, taco-centric, genuine, unpretentious. It began as a food truck and expanded. The location in the Line Hotel is a great spot to hit up after walking the Lady Bird Lake Hike and Bike Trail.

Why it works for a bachelorette group: If your group is into a fun, local, casual vibe (think brunch tacos, laid-back energy), this can be a standout. It’s less “dress up brunch” and more “vibe + flavor.”

Menu highlights: Their breakfast tacos are beloved — flexible, flavorful, perfect for brunching.

Watch-outs / tips: Not as fancy or spacious as other brunch spots, so for large groups you might need to plan logistics (seating, lines). Also, being casual, it’s less about lingering in luxury and more about enjoying the food & vibe.

Cafe No Sé

Vibe & setting: Stylish, Instagram-approved, airy with good aesthetic touches. (While I didn’t dig deep into every detail, it’s well-regarded in Austin lists of “brunch + ambiance” spots.)

Why it works for a bachelorette group: Great option when you want a fun, chic brunch experience with photo ops, good vibes, and a little stylish flair.

Menu & strengths: Expect solid brunch classics, good drink program, and a blend of brunch + café fare.

Watch-outs / tips: Because it’s a trendier spot, it can get crowded — reservations or arriving early help. Also depending on group size, some seating might be tighter.

Fat Rabbit Social House

Vibe & setting: New (opened October 1, 2025) downtown spot, whimsical interior design, lively energy, with indoor + outdoor seating and a colorful patio with string lighting.

Why it works for a bachelorette group: It brings a fun, energetic social brunch feel right in downtown. The name “Social House” is apt — it’s meant to be a gathering place with brunch + cocktails + atmosphere.

Menu highlights: They lean “brunch-forward.” Expect classics done with flair (chicken & waffles, French toast, brunch burger, fresh pastries), as well as drink options including a “mix-your-own mimosa experience” (pick juices + champagne bottle)

Watch-outs / tips: This is another great and easy spot to hit up after a morning walk around the lake.

Perla’s

Vibe & setting: Located on iconic South Congress, Perla’s has a chic coastal feel with whitewashed wood, nautical touches, and a big shady patio beneath centuries-old oak trees.

Why it works for a bachelorette group: It feels celebratory and quintessentially “Austin in style.” The patio is perfect for a festive brunch with champagne and seafood towers, and the South Congress location makes it easy to stroll and shop afterward.

Menu highlights: Fresh oysters, lobster rolls, crab cakes, ceviche, and Gulf Coast classics share the menu with brunch favorites like eggs Benedict, shrimp & grits, and lemon-blueberry pancakes. .

Watch-outs / tips: Perla’s is on the pricier side, so it’s best for a “main event” brunch or celebration meal. The patio is high-demand (and the main draw), so book well ahead and request outdoor seating.

Dinner

La Piscina

La Piscina

Vibe & setting: Located on the rooftop of the Austin Proper Hotel, La Piscina offers a stylish atmosphere with a poolside setting.

Why it works for a bachelorette group: The lively atmosphere, complete with DJs and sunset views, makes it an ideal spot for a celebratory evening. The rooftop setting adds a touch of glamour, perfect for group photos and enjoying cocktails with a view.

Menu highlights: The menu features a variety of Latin American dishes, including ceviches, fajitas, and grilled meats. Keep it simple and get the fajitas (great for sharing) and house margs!

Watch-outs / tips: The venue can get quite loud, especially on weekend nights when the DJ is playing. Outdoor seating tends to feel more relaxed and pleasant. Reservations are recommended due to the popularity of the location.

Justine’s

Photo: Alex Lau, Bon Appetite

Vibe & setting: Justine’s Brasserie offers a romantic, Parisian-inspired setting with bordello-red walls, dim lighting, and a picturesque courtyard adorned with disco balls. The ambiance is both intimate and lively, attracting a fashionable crowd.

Why it works for a bachelorette group: The unique decor and vibrant atmosphere make it a memorable spot for a night out. The late-night hours and eclectic crowd add to the fun, making it a great place to celebrate.

Menu highlights: The menu features classic French dishes such as escargots, steak tartare, and moules frites. The extensive wine list complements the rich flavors of the cuisine.

Menu highlights: The menu features masa-based dishes like tacos, tamales, and empanadas. The cocktail list includes mezcal-based drinks and natural wines that complement the flavors.

Watch-outs / tips: Suerte has been recognized in the Michelin Guide and other culinary awards, highlighting its quality. Reservations are recommended due to its popularity.

Tómalo Grill

Vibe & setting: Tómalo Grill offers a modern Mexican dining experience with a sleek interior featuring contemporary design elements. The atmosphere is upscale yet relaxed, providing a comfortable environment for dining.

Why it works for a bachelorette group: The shareable plates and extensive tequila selection make it perfect for groups. The private dining options allow for personalized experiences.

Why it works for a bachelorette group: The spacious outdoor seating accommodates large parties comfortably. The self-ordering system at the bar allows for flexibility and efficiency, ensuring the group can focus on enjoying the evening.

Menu highlights: Loro’s menu features a fusion of Asian and Texas barbecue, offering dishes like smoked prime bavette, crispy Szechuan tofu rice bowls, and pork belly. The diverse offerings cater to various tastes, ensuring there’s something for everyone.

Watch-outs / tips: While the self-ordering system is convenient, it may take some time during peak hours. It’s advisable to arrive early to secure seating, especially on weekends.

Matt’s El Rancho

Vibe & setting: A true Austin institution since 1952, Matt’s El Rancho offers a festive, family-friendly atmosphere with vibrant red umbrellas, Spanish-tile accents, and a spacious patio.

Why it works for a bachelorette group: The expansive space can accommodate large groups, and the lively ambiance ensures a fun night out.

Menu highlights: Signature dishes include the legendary Bob Armstrong Dip (a layered queso with taco meat, guacamole, sour cream, and pico de gallo), sizzling fajitas, enchiladas, and the famous Mexican martinis. Don’t miss the handmade tortillas and house-made salsas.

Watch-outs / tips: The restaurant can get quite busy, especially on weekends, so it’s advisable to arrive early. The lively atmosphere is great for groups looking to have fun, but it can be noisy.

Outdoor enthusiasts are pretty lucky here in Austin. We’re graced with scenic trails and beautiful views right in our own backyard (see: Town Lake (Lady Bird) and the Barton Creek Greenbelt).

For those who have ran the trail and hiked The Greenbelt countless times, we’ve put together a list of our favorite hidden gems in Austin that may not be on your radar. All the trails are free and are within a 30 minute drive from downtown. Check ’em out!

1. River Place Nature Trail

Surrounded by greenery and tall trees, this trail will take you to a different world; a world that is shaded and cooler (great for the hot, summer months). After climbing many stairs, your heart rate will soar and you’ll reach high levels of elevation that you wouldn’t find anywhere else in Austin. The trail is extremely clear and is impossible to get lost on. Make sure you stop at the creeks and waterfall to cool off. If you’re looking for a challenging hike, this ones got your name all over it!

Pro tip: If you’re a moderately-experienced runner, run the trail. It’s worth it!

Distance: 5.5-6 miles (round trip; no loop)
Dog friendly: Yes
Terrain: Mostly dirt, stairs, some water crossings
Fees/Reservations: $10 on Saturdays and Sundays; no reservations, no cash

2. Walnut Creek Trail

This neck of the woods is a popular spot for both hikers and mountain bikers. Comprised of a huge, 15-mile mass of land, Walnut Creek is an explorer’s dream. There are tons of unmarked paths, so you may get a little lost; but that’s more fun, right? With multiple winding paths and few obstacles, undertaking part of the trail is perfect for beginners. The hike offers plenty of overlooks, so don’t forget to stop and smell the roses on the way up. And of course, cool down in the beautiful creek on the way down.

Pro tip: Wear good shoes. The rocks can be pesky!

Distance: 15 mile loop
Terrain: dirt, loose gravel, small and large rocks, tree roots
Dog friendly: Yes; there are on and off leash sections
Fees/Reservations: Free; no reservations

3. Turkey Creek Trail

Located near The Emma Metropolitan Park, you may be lucky enough to see some wildlife on the drive up! Turkey Creek trail is a very cool, secluded spot where you’ll find a creek that runs along the trail. Although primarily flat, you will find parts of the trail that have moderate elevation changes as well as water crossings. This is the place to be one with nature; but, don’t forget that bug spray!

Pro tip: No, really, lather yourself in bug spray. Horse flies are not your friend.

Distance: 2.8 mile loop
Terrain: Loose rocks, dirt, tree roots
Dog Friendly: Yes, off leash
Fees/Reservations: Free; no reservations

4. St. Edwards Park

Referred to as the “country within the city,” St. Edwards Park is a perfect balance between finding peace and chasing adventure. Surrounded by forest-like areas, there are lots of hidden trails, great elevation, phenomenal views, a waterfall, and a creek. This trail has everything you need for a peaceful getaway and truly is the best of both worlds.

Pro tip: If you’re looking for a more challenging trail with elevation, take the hill trail. Keep your eyes peeled on the way down and you will find a rope swing and swimming hole for all your adventure needs!

Distance: 2-4 mile loop (depending on the trail – hill or creek)
Terrain: mostly dirt, rocks, gravel, and some tree roots
Dog Friendly: Yes; dogs must be on a leash
Fees/Reservations: Free; no reservations

5. Wild Basin Wilderness Preserve

Located off of Loop 360, you can access Wild Basin Wilderness preserve easily, making it a great spot for families and visitors to Austin. It’s a short trail comprised of multiple paths and terrain (dirt, large rocks, loose gravel, tree roots). There are some hills with relatively high elevation, and multiple overlooks that show off a great view of Austin. With a perfect, easy-to-get-to location, be sure to check out this trail for a weekend adventure.

Pro tip: Trails are marked very clearly, but here’s a trail map to help out since there are multiple networks of trails.

Distance: 2.5 mile round trip
Terrain: Dirt, loose gravel, rocks, tree roots
Dog Friendly: No
Fees/Reservations: Free on weekdays; reservations required on weekends and holidays with a nominal day-use fee

Here’s a rotating list of our current favorites in no particular order. Whether you’re after a frozen ‘house’ margarita with a salted rim, or a premium margarita on the rocks with spicy tajin—this list has you covered with both established dives and a few newer kids on the block.

Polvos

Polvos has multiple locations in Austin now, but the restaurant on South 1st Street is our personal favorite for frozen margaritas with a full rainbow of available add-in flavors.

El Alma

When we want multiple marg options, we sit on the rooftop patio at El Alma. Their drink menu offers ELEVEN types of margaritas.

La Piscina

La Piscina’s cocktails are on the pricier side, but the ambience is great, and the margs are as strong as they are delicious.

ATX Cocina

For those seeking a unique marg, the ‘Frida Kahlo’ at ATX Cocina combines Don Fulano Blanco tequila, Jalisco 1562, blood orange, guava, lime, and black lava salt.

Fonda San Miguel

Deemed the mecca of Mexican Food in Austin, Fonda San Miguel also has really great margaritas. Try the Silvercoin, Watermelon infused with Patron Silver, Cointreau, and fresh lime juice.

De Nada

If you don’t have a few of De Nada’s signature pink cups in your cupboard, do you even live in Austin? These margs are both delicious and dangerous.

Cruzteca

This family-owned restaurant serves up ‘city-famous’ margaritas that are worthy of a visit all on their own, but try a few ‘old school’ tacos while you’re at Cruzteca as well.

Suerte

While Suerte may not prominently feature traditional margaritas on its menu, they do offer inventive agave-based cocktails like the ‘Don Dario’ that features reposado tequila, tamarind, lime, and sarsaparilla bitters.

Licha’s

Three words: $8 Happy Hour (four words?)—Combier finished margaritas and hearty snacks for eight bucks a pop.

Fresa’s

Our biggest struggle at Fresa’s is whether to order frozen or on the rocks, and then to drink them inside at the bar or outside on the patio.

La Condesa

One of the first high-end margarita establishments in Austin, the margs at La Condesa are still some of the best in the city. Go at happy hour for a discount and a bowl of guac.

Austin may be home to some world-class venues that will pack in hundreds or even thousands of concertgoers, but it’s the smaller venues that really make this city the Live Music Capital of the World. You can’t go to the Moody Center every night—that would be expensive—but you can certainly go to a Continental Club or Hole In the Wall to catch an up-and-comer or local legend.

Here are seven of Austin’s smaller music venues worth visiting for a show.

Cactus Cafe

The tiny club in the University of Texas Union has hosted some big names on its small stage—The Chicks, Robert Earl Keen, Patty Griffin, Lyle Lovett, Townes Van Zandt, and on and on. The Cactus Cafe opened in 1979 and has become a legendary intimate venue to catch an acoustic set.

2247 Guadalupe St.

Hole In the Wall

Just steps from Cactus Cafe on the Drag sits Hole In the Wall, which has endured decades of change on the strip. Founded in 1974, it’s one of Austin’s oldest music venues and has hosted many a celebrity that has passed through town and helped local acts such as Spoon, Gary Clark Jr., and Shakey Graves get their start.

2538 Guadalupe St.

The Continental Club

The Continental Club has earned legend status since it first opened its doors in 1955 as a supper club. The small club on South Congress has hosted music heavyweights like Stevie Ray Vaughn, Robert Plant, and more. You’ll find live music there every night.

1315 South Congress Ave.

Donn’s Depot

An old train depot and caboose make up this dance hall/piano bar well-loved by locals who love to two-step. Plus, you can still catch Donn Adelman himself playing at Donn’s, which he opened in 1972.

1600 W. Fifth St.

Elephant Room

Austin jazz enthusiasts flock to this downtown underground club to hear music every night, where early shows start at 6 p.m., and headliners go on at 9 p.m. Expect to pay a cover Thursday–Saturday.

315 Congress Ave.

The White Horse

The East Austin honky tonk from former owners of Hole In the Wall has music every night, often featuring the same artists each week on a rotating schedule, and other country artists will make stops. Come here to two-step (or watch the experts) on White Horse’s lively floor.

500 Comal St.

Saxon Pub

Saxon Pub’s intimate space has become a favorite for locals and performers alike, especially for its free happy hour shows. It’s hosted more than 30,000 shows since it opened in 1990, and according to Kris Kristofferson, playing there was like playing in his own living room.

1320 South Lamar Blvd.

]]>
Austin is known for boasting more than 300 sunny days per year, a big draw for out-of-towners looking to escape the cold and snow of the north. But that doesn’t mean we don’t have chilly, rainy, or downright miserable days.

But it also doesn’t mean you have to stay home (unless you want to, of course). Austin still has things to do for the days when being outside sounds terrible.

Here are some ideas for a cold or rainy day in Austin.

See a classic movie at Alamo Drafthouse, Violet Crown, or the Paramount Theatre.

Alamo Drafthouse

The Violet Crown movie theater and the Alamo Drafthouse locations across the city often dust off old titles to show for new viewers or longtime fans. In the summer, venture to the Paramount Theatre for its Summer Classic Film Series, where you can munch on popcorn in its gorgeous space.

Spend an afternoon at the arcade.

Cidercade on Lady Bird Lake
Pinballz offers a massive 13,000 square feet of a classic arcade experience. The family-friendly fun center offers more than 250 games. Looking for something more adult? Check out Cidercade for arcade games and a selection of craft cider that they make.

Go to a museum.

Blanton Museum of Art

Austin might not have the MoMA or the Louvre, but we do have the Blanton, the Contemporary, and smaller galleries scattered across the city. Take in some Texas history at the Bob Bullock Museum, or enjoy the oddities at the Museum of the Weird. Take colorful photos for the grid and eat plenty of ice cream at the Museum of Ice Cream, or explore a new perspective at the Museum of Illusions. Trying to entertain the kids? Visit the Thinkery, where they can learn about art and science through hands-on activities.

Visit the library.

Austin Public Library, Downtown location

Find a good book to cozy up with at your nearest library branch. Or, if you haven’t made it to the gorgeous Austin Central Library, a rainy day is the perfect opportunity. It’s one of Austin’s most beautiful public spaces, with a gallery showcasing local artists, a rooftop garden, and a cafe where you can get a hot cup of coffee and a pastry or lunch.

Go bowling at Highland Lanes.

Strive for a strike at the old-school bowling alley on Burnet. You can take advantage of Sunday specials, including Sunday morning “Claim a Lane”—unlimited bowling from 9:30 a.m. to noon for $21 per lane, including shoe rental, with up to eight people per lane. Save room for lunch or dinner when you go—Highland Lanes legitimately has one of the best burgers in Austin at Lebowski’s Grill.

Find a good bowl of soup.

Ramen Tatsu-Ya

There’s nothing better than hot soup on a gray day. Find a new favorite pho spot nearby (I’m a big fan of Pho Please), try the Tex-ified ramen at BBQ Ramen Tatsu-ya, get a warm grilled cheese and soup combo at The Soup Peddler, or indulge in the French onion soup at June’s All Day.

Try an Escape Room.

Escape Rooms are sure to include riddles and puzzles but The Escape Game Austin takes it to a whole other level—every game takes you on an adventure.
With a focus on designing and creating stunning, unbelievably life-like experiences, The Escape Game has a bunch of immersive themes. Games include Gold Rush, Prison Break, The Heist, and Classified.

Make friends at a bar.

Cape Bottle Room

Take your moody main character energy on a rainy day to a cozy bar for a cocktail or glass of wine. Here Nor There is great if you’re feeling fancy (and if you want to learn from its knowledgeable bartenders), explore the world of South African wine at Cape Bottle Room, or visit an Austin classic like Sam’s Town Point, which draws Austinites from all walks of life.

Visit one of Austin’s indie bookstores.

We all (rightfully) love Book People, but have you also visited Reverie Books, Black Pearl Books, Resistencia Books, or Vintage Books and Wine?

Challenge your friends to Blazer Tag.

Relive the thrills of your youth at Blazer Tag, the largest laser tag arena in the state with 10,000 square feet and three stories of gameplay area with ramps, bridges, and towers. Plus, there’s an arcade and beer and wine for purchase.

Go axe throwing.

Step into a world where adrenaline meets precision at Axe Escape Austin. Experience the thrill of tossing tomahawk axes, ninja stars, throwing cards, and even batarangs. Their diverse range of throwing tools adds a unique twist to your adventure, making every visit a one-of-a-kind experience. Whether you’re a seasoned thrower or a first-timer, our expert coaches are here to guide you through the art of precision throwing. Elevate your fun factor, challenge your skills, and discover the excitement that comes with mastering an array of throwing tools.

Hit the green with indoor golf.

Spare Birdie in Cedar Park

Golf doesn’t have to be an outdoor activity. Play a round of mini golf from the comfort of the indoors at Dirdie Birdie, Top Golf, Golfinity, or Spare Birdie in Cedar Park.

Austin is well-loved for its greenspaces, but perhaps none is mentioned as often as the Greenbelt. Each year, locals and visitors flock to the public land to see Central Texas’ natural beauty and maybe get a swim in as well.

Want to head out to the Greenbelt soon? Here’s what you should know.

What is the Greenbelt?

The Barton Creek Greenbelt is a 7.5-mile stretch of land through South Austin used for hiking, swimming, birdwatching, rock climbing, cycling, and more. It begins near the famed Barton Springs Pool at Zilker Park and ends at 1712 Camp Craft Road.

Where can I enter?

The Greenbelt has seven access points. Popular ones include the trail’s head at Zilker Park (2212 William Barton Drive), the main access point off of the Capital of Texas Highway (3755-B Capital of Texas Highway), and the Twin Falls access point (3918 South Mopac Expressway).

What should I bring?

Bring plenty of water and sunscreen, especially during Austin’s warm days. Snacks are also a good idea, but don’t forget to take all trash and recyclables—leave no trace! Alcohol is not allowed, so leave the beer at home. A towel and extra socks may also be a good idea if you plan to swim.

Can I bring my dog?

Dogs are welcome on the trail but must stay on a leash for the safety of other hikers and cyclists. Don’t forget extra water for your furry friend. Also, check on Austin’s harmful algae blooms that may crop up in the Greenbelt’s water, which can be extremely toxic for dogs if ingested.

Where can I park?

Parking lots are near the Zilker, 360, and Homedale access points. But beware, spots can fill up quickly on good weather days. Austin is also bringing back its free weekend shuttle from the One Texas Center parking garage to Zilker Park starting May 27.

Where can I swim?

Perhaps the most crucial question for hiking during Austin’s warmer months. The Greenbelt includes two swimming areas: Campbell’s Hole and Gus Fruh.

Campbell’s Hole includes rock formations, sandbars, and a pebble beach, and lies near the Homedale and Spyglass access points. It’s also less popular than some other Austin swimming holes.

Gus Fruh is another less-traveled favorite of locals, and the swimming hole can get very deep after some good rain. However, the Gus Fruh access point (2632 Barton Hills Drive) is in a residential area, meaning street parking is necessary.

Hikers will also take a dip in Twin Falls and Sculpture Falls. Just know that water levels will always depend on rainfall; you’ll have a better shot at a good swim in late spring and early summer.
