It’s easy to appreciate a local farmers’ market. There are locally grown fruits, veggies, eggs, dairy, meat, and more that you can’t find at your nearest H-E-B. The growers are often right there and can tell you all about what’s in season and what they’re selling. And a good farmers market can get you out of your comfort zone in the kitchen when you’re shopping in season. Plus, it’s hard to beat a Sunday morning strolling booth to booth.

Even better: Shopping at an Austin farmers market helps support our local farmers, ranchers, makers, and more. Local food always tastes better. It’s just a fact.

Here are six farmers’ markets in Austin you can visit each week.

Texas Farmers’ Market at Mueller

The Texas Farmers’ Market at Mueller boasts an impressive list of more than 120 vendors from growers to artisanal makers. Agricultural producers come from within 150 miles of the market, meaning the produce is fresh and doesn’t have to travel far before it gets to your table.

When: Sundays, 10 a.m.–2 p.m.

Where: 2006 Philomena St.

Sustainable Food Center Farmers’ Market Downtown

Republic Square is bustling every Saturday with over 40 vendors, small local businesses, community programs, and activities for the whole family. Both of the Sustainable Food Center’s farmers markets accept SNAP Lonestar cards and WIC EBT cards, and Double Up Food Bucks are available, which double the amount of Lone Star (SNAP), WIC, and FMNP benefits individuals and families can spend on fruits and vegetables at farmers’ markets and mobile markets in Austin.

When: Saturdays, 9 a.m.–1 p.m.

Where: Republic Square, 422 Guadalupe St.

Bee Cave Farmers Market

From the organizers of Cedar Park Market Days, the Bee Cave Farmers Market has all the makings of a good farmers market—fresh local produce, prepared foods, and other artisanal goods—as well as live music every Sunday from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.

When: Sundays, 10 a.m.–2 p.m.

Where: 12700 Hill Country Blvd., Bee Cave

Sustainable Food Center Farmers’ Market Sunset Valley

While this farmers’ market has been in Austin for a while, the Sustainable Food Center took over in 2010. With more than 35 local vendors, it’s become a reliable destination for in-season fruit and vegetables, pasture-raised meat, eggs, pastries, and handcrafted artisan goods.

When: Saturdays, 9 a.m.–1 p.m.

Where: Toney Burger Center, 3200 Jones Rd.

Barton Creek Farmers Market

The Barton Creek Farmers Market first got its start in the Whole Foods parking lot back in 1987, making it one of the city’s oldest markets. Located at the back of Barton Creek Mall, this farmers’ market has seasonal fruits and vegetables, dairy and meat, and prepared foods.

When: Saturdays, 9 a.m.–1 p.m.

Where: 2901 S Capital of Texas Hwy

Lone Star Farmers Market

In September of 2024, Lone Star Farmers Market moved from Bee Cave to Belterra Village. This market has fresh flowers, produce, farm raised wagyu, and so much more.

When: Sundays, 10 a.m.–2 p.m.

Where: 167 Hargraves Dr

Boggy Creek Farm

This organic, no-till urban farm hosts its own farmers market, and it’s open during the week. Check their website each week to see what’s available, from produce to pasta to meat to coffee. Be sure to bring your own bags—the market has eliminated plastic produce bags.

When: Wednesdays through Saturdays, 8 a.m.–1 p.m.

Where: 3414 Lyons Rd.

The Blanton Museum of Art

Ellsworth Kelly’s Austin at Blanton

LBJ Presidential Library

LBJ Presidential Library

Johnson, as well as his wife, the beloved Lady Bird Johnson. See recreations of the Oval Office and Lady Bird’s office, the presidential limousine, and an exhibit dedicated to President John F. Kennedy’s assassination when LBJ suddenly took office.

Exhibits rotate throughout the year.

Hours: Tuesday–Friday, 10 a.m.–5 p.m.; Saturday–Sunday, noon–5 p.m.

Cost: $14 for those aged 2 and up; free during community hours on Tuesdays and Sundays

Mexic-Arte Museum

Located in downtown Austin, the Mexic-Arte Museum was founded in 1984 by artists Sylvia Orozco, Sam Coronado, and Pio Pulido to showcase and create a space for traditional and contemporary Mexican, Latino, and Latin American art and culture. For example, an exhibit beginning in September celebrates Día de los Muertos with ofrendas and works by Jose Guadalupe Posada and more.

Hours: Monday–Thursday, 10 a.m.–6 p.m.; Friday–Saturday, 10 a.m.–5 p.m.; Sunday, 12–5 p.m.

Cost: $7 for adults, $4 for students, $1 for children 12 and under

Bullock Texas State History Museum

Nearly 500,000 people visit the Bullock Museum each year to learn the story of Texas, which covers the Lone Star State’s history from thousands of years before it was even a state through the 21st century.

Hours: Monday–Sunday, 10 a.m.–5 p.m.

Cost: $15 for adults, $9 for children ages 4-17, students and seniors, kids 3 and under free

The Contemporary

The Contemporary

With two locations, the Contemporary highlights modern and contemporary art. The Jones Center downtown includes an indoor space for rotating exhibitions and a rooftop area, while Laguna Gloria operates on the museum’s original home on the Clara Driscoll estate and showcases contemporary sculpture and art installations on 14 acres.

Hours: Check website for Jones Center and Laguna Gloria

For those who wish to keep their feet firmly planted on the ground, Zip Lost Pines offers a base camp with yard games, plenty of seats, and even a water bowl for those four-legged family members that come along on the adventure. Our family took full advantage of the base camp while there over the holidays. Our adrenaline-loving nieces zipped until their hearts were content while the rest of the family enjoyed ping pong and the comfy hammock chairs after a hike to watch them fly through the sky.

The zip line tours are perfect for groups, so whether you have family and friends visiting from out of town or you are looking for a memorable day with your family, book now for an adventure they will never forget!

Girls Empowerment Network’s latest Unstoppable Activist Spark Kit is here to inspire tween and teen girls to effectively and confidently engage in their community. Now in its 25th year, Girls Empowerment Network’s mission is to increase girls’ self-efficacy and ignite the power in girls by teaching them the skills to thrive and believe in their abilities to become unstoppable.

For the Unstoppable Activist Spark Kit, girl experts created more than two dozen fun activities that help girls identify and live out their values to make the world a better place. The all-in-one girl power activity boxes also connect girls to girl experts and peers, creating community that many girls have been missing during the COVID-19 pandemic.

All of the activities will help them find their voice so they can confidently advocate for themselves and their communities for change. The Spark Kits also connect girls to girl experts and peers on weekly calls (now available in English and Spanish) and virtual workshops. It also includes an invitation to Spark Change Day on May 15, a virtual training for youth on the power of advocacy, a review of the legislative process, interactive exploration of issues which impact girls in our nation and the opportunity to hear from local and national policymakers.

What’s Inside?

The Unstoppable Activist Spark Kit features a colorful journal and all the supplies for 25 hands-on activities that show girls how to identify social causes that are meaningful to them, how to effectively advocate for an issue, how to practice authentic self-care, and how to use their voice for a more equitable and just world.

A sample of activities include:

  • Tree of Life Drawing their “Tree of Life,” girls reflect on how their experiences shape the activist they want to become.
  • The 5 Whys – Girls question their “why” to discover why an issue is true, why it is happening and why it is important for them.
  • S.M.A.R.T. Demands – Activating their critical thinking skills, girls learn how to be a powerful advocate for the changes they want to see in the world.
  • How a Bill Becomes Law – Girls imagine themselves as a Texas legislator and confidently write about a bill they would like to have passed.
  • Radical Rest and Relaxation Girls create a relaxing rice and lavender sachet, using aromatherapy as a coping skill and learn the importance of self-care.

The activities are self-led and come with virtual check-ins with girl experts via phone, text, or video call. Girls may also access upcoming virtual workshops and events, and this Spark Kit will be available through the end of May 2021.

For the first time, a translated UNSTOPPABLE ACTIVIST Spark Kit journal will be available digitally in Spanish along with girl expert, Spanish-facilitated groups.

Spark Kits are so much fun girls will never know it’s designed to teach them skills that improve their mental health and make them feel more confident.

How Do I Get One?

Unstoppable Activist Spark Kits are available to order online

Valued at $500 each, the kits are made possible with the support of donors and sponsors, making the cost to families and schools only $35 plus tax, with shipping calculated at checkout. Spark Kits can be mailed anywhere in the United States.

Spark Kits can also be hand-delivered via a “Spirit Squad” within a 30–mile radius of its Austin and Houston offices during weeks designated on the website. Deluxe Spark Kits are $50 and include fast shipping plus a limited–edition Girls Empowerment Network t-shirt and water bottle while supplies last.

Additional Opportunities include sponsoring a Spark Kit, as well as Girls Empowerment Network virtual volunteer opportunities, such as writing relatable role model letters to girls.
